The Power of Social Proof In Personal Training

The Power of Social Proof In Personal Training

In the world of personal training, where trust and credibility play pivotal roles, the concept of social proof functions as an authentic way to connect with your audience. Social proof, the influence created when individuals see others engaging in a particular behavior, has become a driving force in the fitness industry. Let’s discuss the significance of social proof in personal training and explore how you can use it to help your business.

4 REASONS TO USE SOCIAL PROOF IN PERSONAL TRAINING

A personal trainers success is tied to their ability to build strong relationships, built on respect and trust. Our abilities to cultivate connections with our community that motivate and inspire. We want to use social proof to extend that relationship to a large audience. And return help more people achieve their goals and see our own business grow.

THE CREDIBILITY BOOST

One of the primary benefits of leveraging social proof in personal training is the instant credibility it provides. Testimonials from satisfied clients, before-and-after photos, and success stories serve as tangible evidence that your training methods yield results. Potential clients are more likely to trust a personal trainer who can show a track record of success.

As the saying goes, “Seeing is believing,” and social proof becomes the visual testament to your expertise.

CREATING A CONNECTION

Beyond the numbers on the scale or the inches lost, social proof humanizes the training experience. Sharing personal stories creates an emotional connection between the trainer, the client, and the prospective client. When individuals can relate to the struggles, triumphs, and transformations of others, they are more inclined to envision themselves on a similar journey.

Social proof is a bridge that allows people to see themselves succeeding under your guidance.

DIVERSE PERSPECTIVES, UNIVERSAL INSPIRATION:

Social proof in personal training isn’t a one-size-fits-all concept. The more diverse the range of testimonials and success stories, the more relatable and inclusive your training program becomes. Highlighting clients of different ages, fitness levels, and backgrounds demonstrates the versatility of your approach. It sends a powerful message: fitness is for everyone, and your training can be personalized to meet individual needs.

Note, if you are going very nice specific with your client base then this point would pivot. It would be hyper focused on the type of client you specialize in. For example, Eric Cressey is entirely sports performance based, with a focus on baseball, and an even tighter focus on pitchers.

BUILDING A SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY

In the age of social media, the impact of social proof is amplified. Sharing success stories on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, or your personal training website creates a sense of community. Clients become part of a collective journey toward health and wellness. Encouraging clients to share their progress not only fosters a supportive environment but also expands your reach to potential clients who may be inspired by the transformations they see.

Motivation and inspiration are tools we use to get clients to take the first step. We have succeeded when we have helped them create discipline.

TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE SOCIAL PROOF IN PERSONAL TRAINING:

  1. Encourage Client Testimonials: Actively seek feedback from your clients and ask if they would be willing to share their success stories.
  2. Before-and-After Visuals: Incorporate striking before-and-after photos with permission from your clients. These visual transformations are powerful tools for showcasing progress.
  3. Video Testimonials: In the era of video content, consider capturing client testimonials on video. The sincerity and emotion conveyed through video can be particularly compelling.
  4. Highlight Milestones: Share stories of clients overcoming specific challenges or achieving significant milestones. These stories add depth and resonance to your social proof.

One of my favorite tools for sharing testimonials is Canva. They have a free version that you can use to make graphics and videos to share on social media and in your e-mails.

Social proof is a testament to the impact personal training can have on individuals’ lives. Real stories and tangible results build stronger relationships that will motivate and inspire. Create social proof that is unique to your brand and show potential clients the roadmap to success they are searching for.

3 Reasons to Own Your Own Training Business

3 Reasons to Own Your Own Training Business

Owning your own training business can be an exciting and yet overwhelming thought. But ask yourself…

  1. Are you committed to the long term?
  2. Does passion and knowledge fuel your desire to work with clients everyday?
  3. Are you looking for more career advancement opportunities?

If you answer yes to those three questions then owning your own personal training business could be the right fit for you and here is why.

Committed To The Long Term

I could tell you something cliché like “nothing easy is worth doing” or “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, but I quite honestly despise those sayings.  What you need to know is any career, and I mean any, where your success rides on your reputation and referrals is always going to require a long-term perspective.

As a personal trainer you need to be thinking 5, 10 and 20 year goals for yourself. No one else is going to make set goals or plan your future. Instead our industry is built on the backs of passionate people who burnout because of low pay, long hours and limited growth potential.

So if you want to make your career as a personal trainer stick you need to think long term goals. And if you think hard enough you will realize that in many cases owning your own personal training business is one of the key steps to take to secure your long-term success and future.

Fueled By Passion and Knowledge

I don’t care what industry or career you want to talk about, success is closely related passion and knowledge. And long-term success is always tied to passion and knowledge.

If you can truly say that you enjoy and WANT to get out of bed everyday to work with clients then you likely have sticking power in our industry. But to be a business owner you have to have one more thing.

You have to have want autonomy and responsibility of the good and the bad. And you have to want to learn because it might be simple to open an LLC, but managing finances and setting yourself up for financial independence requires the same focus and intention you put into your craft as a personal trainer.

Career Advancement Opportunities

Just about every career opportunity I have seen in our industry hits a plateau for one reason or another. Being a business owner gives you control of your career and the ability to break through plateaus, because they will still come.

This isn’t a Madonna moment where you can spend your entire career reinventing yourself. You can continually create the type of work-life balance you want by varying products/services you offer while still maintaining your reputation and relationships.

THE PURE FITNESS OPPORTUNITY

Pure Fitness is here to offer a new opportunity. We are encouraging personal trainers new, old and part-time to look at a cost-effective way of owning their own business. To take control of the career growth and earning potential.

We offer passionate personal trainers, focused on the long-term, the ability to rent a fully equipped space. Effectively minimize overhead expenses and build the career they want. And alleviate much of the financial risk and stressors associated to business ownership.

Personal trainers renting at Pure Fitness have full control over their businesses. They set their price points, pick their schedules and more. 3 Ways to Gauge Success As A Trainer

3 Ways to Gauge Success As A Trainer

Whether you work at a gym or you’re an owner reflecting and evaluating your performance as a personal trainer is a necessary component to growth and long-term success. Here are 3 ways to gauge your business success as a personal trainer:

  1. Client Retention
  2. Client Referrals
  3. Client Success

CLIENT RETENTION IN PERSONAL TRAINING

Client retention gives you career/income stability. And in an industry that has an 80-90% turnover rate of personal trainers, according to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, simply sticking around is key.

FIRST STEP

Commit to the long haul. Focus on where you want to be in 10-15 years. Build your brand, your skills and your relationships to reflect your long term vision.

SECOND STEP

There are three things you can do everyday to retain clients: listen, educate and follow-up.

The client is here for her/himself and they will tell you exactly what they want. Listen. A client comes to you because they believe you know more than them. Educate. Your clients make strides and share personal information. Follow-up.

Do this routine and use the feedback to improve your programming and relationship.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR THE NEXT STEP IN YOUR CAREER?

For those of you who are curious, according to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, personal trainers are leaving because they are unhappy with work hours, atmosphere, career mobility, and compensation among other things.

Pure Fitness’ Independent Personal Trainer model is designed to help personal trainers increase their career happiness and longevity by improving compensation, growth and work hours through business ownership. Read Improve the Work Life Balance of a Trainer for insight into how we are offering a new type of career as a personal trainer.

CLIENT REFERRALS IN PERSONAL TRAINING

In my experience client retention leads to client referrals.

Not all clients refer. But you can do three things to encourage referrals.

  1. Inform – make sure your clients know that you are accepting and actively looking for new clients.
  2. Share – Tell clients about opportunities or other services that may interest them or their friends and family.
  3. Reward – offer an incentive for referrals, but remember the success of your referrals comes from the value you have built in your relationship with a client, not the value of the incentive.

SET YOURSELF APART FROM THE CROWD

I think it is important to note, when you get a referral treat the referrer as important as you treat the new client. After all, you want them to refer again. The necessity is to thank the referring client directly with a face-to-face conversation and even a card.

CLIENT SUCCESS IN PERSONAL TRAINING

Your goal is to deliver quality programming designed to help your client reach their goals. Measuring and communicating client progress is essential to properly evaluating success.

Consider making a client specific assessment protocol. It can include metrics like body fat and measurements, and fitness testing like a flexibility assessment and a 1 rep max. Communicate the results and how the program is designed to support their goals to create trust and validation.

SUCCESS AS A PERSONAL TRAINER

Client results, retention and referrals serve as validation of your skills as a personal trainer. They show your ability to listen to needs, apply knowledge, create and implement a program designed for success.

The most valuable asset you have is your clients.  Clients are the life blood of your business. Take time and step away from training to evaluate your business health to ensure you are creating a great experience for your clients.

WHAT ABOUT BUSINESS OWNERSHIP?

Pure Fitness is here to offer a new opportunity. We are encouraging personal trainers new, old and part-time to look at a cost-effective way of owning their own business. To take control of the career growth and earning potential by renting a full equipped studio.

Improve the Work Life Balance of a Trainer

Improve the Work Life Balance of a Trainer

The fitness industry is a growing and exciting area right now. Personal training, specifically boutique fitness, is a creative, flexible, and in-demand space that grows annually. It is also one that struggles to retain personal trainers due to multifaceted job dissatisfaction. Here is how Pure Fitness is going to improve the work life balance of a personal trainer allowing them to love their career and take hold of their future.

CURRENT LANDSCAPE IN PERSONAL TRAINING

According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics the industry is projected to grow 39% with a personal trainer turnover of 80-90%. This turnover can be attributed to work hours, pay and stunted career growth.

Most positions for personal trainers are hourly based with few opportunities for salaried positions. It is true that in some cases an hourly position can be very lucrative. That is rarely the case for personal trainers.

The average personal trainers are working on an hourly pay basis hoping to pick-up new clients, grow their business and build stability. To do so they need to make themselves available. That means all day, every day, including weekends. This wide open schedule allows personal trainers to cast the broadest net. Successfully attracting the largest number of clients to stimulate income.

On a national average, personal trainers make $40,500 annually depending on employer and geographic location. At 40 hours a week and 52 weeks in year, the average trainer is making approximately $19.50 per hour.

Career growth is represented by new roles and responsibilities and an increase in compensation. In the case of a personal trainer, vertical growth (new roles and responsibilities) are rare. Hourly pay is a result of how much a client pays per session, which will directly limit earning potential.

THE CHALLENGES FACING A CAREER AS A PERSONAL TRAINER

A personal trainer’s work hours will always be dictated by client availability. Most people want to train before work, at lunch, or after work. For a trainer to work a standard 8-9 hour day of sessions they are likely to be working from 5 am to 8 pm, just not every hour.

That is the recipe for burnout.

Career growth comes to a halt after a few years for most personal trainers. Simply because there is a ceiling on how much people are willing to pay for personal training.

The result is that qualified personal trainers leave for more rewarding and lucrative opportunities. And others branch out on their own. Committed to staying in the industry.

HOW TO IMPROVE THE WORK LIFE BALANCE OF A PERSONAL TRAINER

Pure Fitness is here to offer a new opportunity. We are encouraging personal trainers new, old and part-time to look at a cost-effective way of owning their own business. To take control of the career growth and earning potential.

We offer passionate personal trainers, focused on the long-term, the ability to rent space. Effectively minimize overhead expenses and build the career they want. And alleviate much of the financial risk and stressors associated to business ownership.

There are no annoying responsibilities like cleaning and towel folding. Instead, personal trainers can focus on their craft, their career and their business.
