Doctors Park – Bayside, Wisconsin

Doctors Park – Bayside, Wisconsin

Summer time in Wisconsin is like nothing else. We wait all year long for the long days, sunshine, festivals and patios. I try to get every second out of everyday. Part of that means taking my girl Bella, the pit bull, on long walks and hikes at local and state parks. She’s a fair weather dog, so we have a short window when it isn’t too hot, too cold, too windy, too wet, too snowy, to get our walks in. If you read our Wisconsin Hiking – Friday FavoritesĀ then you know we put a list together of our favorite hikes near and far. If you haven’t checked out that article I would highly suggest it. One of those hikes could be just what you need! First path down to the beach Jane making the beautiful views even better! Found the beach! Benches to rest before the hike out. Chellie & her main girl Fallen trees All the stairs Jane with some incredible lighting Stairway to the beautiful Lake Michigan. šŸŒ³ Doctors Park šŸŒ³ We (Jane, Bella & I) went to Doctors Park in Bayside and spent almost 2 hours hiking around – not easy to do when you are 7 or 8 months pregnant and everything is stairs and hills. But, we prevailed and Jane was patient with me as I panted by way up the hills & stairs. One of the things I love about this place, besides proximity, is “amenities”. There is a playground near the parking lot and plenty of open space and picnic tables. Perfect for family or friend gatherings – summers go hand in...
Fast Workouts For Everyday

Fast Workouts For Everyday

Have you ever set yourself a really aggressive short-term goal? I mean like 20 things on a to do list when there is really only time to do 5 things? Well, I am here to tell you that you are not alone. This behavior is something that I have struggled with my entire life. It crosses over into everything I do – personally and professionally. Mike, my husband, always calls me a slave driver when I tell him what’s on the list for the weekend. As a child my parents lovingly told me that I would make a great third world dictator when I grew up. I guess I come by it naturally. Knowing that doesn’t eliminate this tendency from my personality. However, as I’ve matured and confirmed my loved ones are in fact correct, I have tried to curb my aggressive short-term goal habit. One of the ways I do that is by setting REALISTIC goals based on the time I have in the day not my desire to get projects done. One area of my life that I find easy to throw into the “back seat” is my workouts. I know I am a trainer and that probably sounds ridiculous. But we are human too. We struggle with the same things everyone else struggles with. Exercises is also an area of my life I can’t function without. I am just irritable, obnoxious and unhappy when I don’t workout. Which means I make everyone else around me feel irritated, annoyed and unhappy. So I have to make it priority. For the sake of my marriage, my relationships and...
Core Workouts Where You Can Feel The Burn

Core Workouts Where You Can Feel The Burn

I am over here waddling around 8 months (and some change) pregnant. Jealous of your ability to climb a flight of stairs without being out of breath. Jealous of your ability to bend at your hips. And goodness am I jealous of your ability to do core exercises. If there is one thing I miss right now its the ability to sit-up … in bed, off the couch and doing a regular old core exercise. Which is why this weeks Weekly Round-Up is focused on core. Lets take a look at the best core workout videos we have put together. (This post contains affiliate links.) BACKGROUND: CORE VS. ABS First, I’d like to explain why I intentionally use the word core as opposed to abs. Over my years as a trainer I have found many trigger words that are suppose to be associated with a healthy lifestyle, but in reality are associated to body image disorders, misconceptions, and poor habits. To me, one of those words is abs. Everyone wants to have abs? But, what everyone doesn’t know is that WE ALL HAVE ABS. We would not be able to stand up or lift our arms above our head or move around. So then why aren’t we all walking around with, another trigger, washboard abs? It’s simple nutrition. Well, nutrition is 90% of it the other 10% is your abdominal muscle strength and size. We can all remember that kid, and maybe it was you, I know it was me, that had abs at the age of 8 or 10. Well that is just one skinny, lean kid. Not...
Summer Upper Body Workout – The Weekly Round Up

Summer Upper Body Workout – The Weekly Round Up

Today I am just in the mood for a good old upper body burnout. Summer is always a trigger for me and upper body workouts. It’s hard to explain. Maybe it is the ridiculous phrase “suns out, guns out”. But regardless summer is motivational for me to strengthen my upper body. And let me be clear, I like to feel strong. I am not talking about skinny arms, “perfect triceps” or “mini boulder” shoulders. No, no, no. I am talking about walking up to a playground and doing a pull-up. Or being able to work outside in my yard weeding, planting, digging and landscaping without ease. And even swimming. Long swims in quite lakes. Kayaking. Paddle Boards. Water Skiing. Those are summer activities that I like to feel strong and ready for. So, in the spirit of summer and strong arms I have put together a list of our MOST WATCHED upper body videos on YouTube. I have also included some information on each video so you can be prepared. The best part, still, is that these videos are 20-30 minutes of work. Making them easier to fit into the day. And perhaps the other best part is that they are made to be done at home. If you haven’t subscribed to our YouTube Channel you should do so immediately. Yes, I am biased. BUT we put out three workouts a week for FREE. You get to work with personal trainers for FREE. Now let me say, there are a few more recent upper body videos that I think are particularly awesome. But, they just don’t have the same...
Relieving Your Low Back Pain

Relieving Your Low Back Pain

One of the most common complaints I hear from my clients is low back pain or discomfort. And do you know what? The majority of them just need a stretching and recovery program to offset their lifestyle. That’s a fancy way of saying they sit a lot and have developed some imbalances in flexibility and strength. I have seen the most relief from incorporating a recovery program that focuses on the muscles above and below the hip. Now, I would guess this wont shock you, but there are a decent number of muscles that are in or around your hips – 4 quad muscles, 3 hamstrings, 4 glute muscles, adductors, abductors, not to mention the muscles of the low back like your QL, lats and erector spinae and more. However, the good news is that we can make some logical assumptions based on lifestyle that help us target specific muscles through foam rolling, mobility exercises and stretching. We are going to look at how focusing on the hamstrings, IT band, quads, hip flexors and glutes can help relieve your low back pain. WHY SITTING HURTS I would be a fool to believe that you have NEVER heard that sitting at a desk or in a car can be hard on your body. Or that you have never felt that stiff and uncomfortable feelingĀ  upon standing up after sitting for a long time. We have all either experienced it or we have heard others talk about. The easiest way to think about WHY sitting hurts is to understand what happens. Let me start by saying the human body is truly...
